Waltair Railway Division Plans Major Flyover Project in Odisha.
The Waltair railway division has received approval from the Railway Board for a ₹240 crore project to construct a 5.5-km-long flyover at the Singapur road junction near Rayagada, Odisha. The flyover aims to improve traffic flow at the intersection of the Koraput-Rayagada railway line and the Vizianagaram-Raipur mainline, a key area experiencing heavy train traffic and delays.
The new flyover is expected to significantly reduce crossing times, benefiting both passenger and goods services in the region. Currently, 25 to 30 passenger trains operate on the Vizianagaram-Raipur line, and the project is expected to accommodate an additional five trains once completed.
The flyover is slated for completion by the end of 2027 and will also improve connectivity between the Koraput-Rayagada-Singapur road junction, facilitating the transportation of minerals and cement by freight trains.
Additionally, the Waltair division has begun modernization works at Parvathipuram and Bobbili railway stations, which include upgraded access points, foot overbridges, lifts, multilevel parking, and commercial complexes. These upgrades are expected to be completed within two years.
Divisional Railway Manager Manoj Kumar Sahoo confirmed that construction will begin in the next financial year.
