"Ambuja Cements Launches 200 MW Solar Power Plant".
Ambuja Cements, an Adani Group company, has successfully commissioned and begun power transmission from its 200 MW solar power project at Khavda in Gujarat. The project marks the first phase of a larger renewable energy initiative aimed at driving sustainability and cost efficiency.
The remaining 806 MW capacity from the project is currently at various stages of commissioning and is expected to start transmitting power in phases between March and June next year. Once fully operational, the solar power project is anticipated to reduce power costs by up to 70%.
This milestone is part of Ambuja Cements’ broader ₹10,000 crore investment in green energy initiatives, which include 1 GW of renewable energy projects encompassing solar and wind power, along with 376 MW of Waste Heat Recovery Systems.
Of the remaining capacity, 156 MW of wind power from Khavda and an additional 300 MW of solar power from Rajasthan are slated for commissioning by March. The final 350 MW of solar power is expected to go live by June next year.
Ajay Kapur, CEO – Cement Business, Adani Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. “The first phase of our 1 GW renewable power project is a significant step towards decarbonizing our value chain. We aim to meet 60% of our total energy consumption from green power sources by FY’28, while also reducing overall costs,” he said.
The company has received standing clearance for its 200 MW solar power project from the Western Regional Load Dispatch Centre, effective immediately. This clearance enables the smooth transmission of power, advancing Ambuja Cements’ sustainability goals.
