Water sports complex inaugurated at Gopalpur.

A water sports complex was inaugurated in the backwater at Gopalpur beach resort in Ganjam district of Odisha recently.

The inauguration comes ahead of the Gopalpur beach festival scheduled from December 24 to 28. This complex is being envisioned as a major attractor of tourists and water sport enthusiasts to this famous beach resort on eastern coast, best known for it serenity. Berhampur sub-collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan inaugurated the complex.

Established with support of international scuba diver Shabbir Baux, the complex has facilities for water surfing, wind surfing, kayaking and scuba diving as well as water scooters. It would remain open for visitors from 7 a.m. till 5 p.m.. Well-known wind surfer Manaswini Moharana, who hails from Ganjam district, would provide training and technical support to the visitors.

A preparatory meeting for Goplapur beach festival was held in the city on Sunday under the chairmanship of State Minister and Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahy. This meeting was attended by MLAs of Chatrapur and Berhampur, chairperson of Berhampur Development Authority, Deputy Inspector General of police, southern range, Berhampur SP and Ganjam Collector. Apart from showcasing folk and classical music and dance of Odisha and other States, this beach festival will also have a food festival, trade fair and handloom fair. There would be an exhibition of equipments of air defence by Army Air Defence College (AADC), Gopalpur, during the festival.
