WBPDCL Invites Environmental Assessment Bids for ₹10,070 Crore Bakreshwar Power Expansion
West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) has invited bids for conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for its proposed 800 MW supercritical thermal power generating unit at Bakreshwar in West Bengal.
The proposed expansion, involving an estimated investment of ₹10,070 crore, aims to strengthen the state's electricity generation capacity and support growing industrial and domestic power demand.
The environmental assessment will examine the project's potential impacts on air quality, water resources, land use, ecology and surrounding communities. The study will support the statutory environmental clearance process and help identify necessary mitigation measures before project implementation.
The proposed unit will incorporate supercritical technology, offering higher thermal efficiency compared with conventional coal-based generating units.
The current tender relates exclusively to environmental assessment consultancy services and does not constitute an award or tender for the main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works.
The project remains at the pre-construction environmental evaluation stag
