Welspun Enterprises Emerges as Lowest Bidder for Over ₹10,000 Crore Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra.

In a significant development, Welspun Enterprises recently informed the stock exchanges that it has emerged as the lowest (L1) bidder for two major infrastructure projects in Maharashtra, together valued at over ₹10,000 crore. The announcement, described by the company as a one-time disclosure, marks a key milestone ahead of the formal awarding of contracts.

Typically, Welspun Enterprises only announces new project wins exceeding its materiality threshold upon receiving a Letter of Award (LoA). However, the company opted to disclose its L1 status given the scale and strategic importance of these bids.

The first project involves the construction of a six-lane, partially elevated highway corridor from Pune to Shirur (NH-753F) under the design-finance-build-operate-transfer (Toll) model. With an estimated cost of ₹7,300 crore and a 29-year concession period, this four-year construction project is being undertaken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) through the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation.

The second project involves the development of a 910 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant at Panjrapur, Maharashtra, under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The ₹3,145 crore project includes operations and maintenance responsibilities for 15 years and will be executed in partnership with Veolia Water Technologies, Malaysia.

In a related development, Welspun Enterprises’ board is scheduled to meet on October 15 to consider a proposal for raising funds through the issuance of convertible equity warrants on a preferential basis. The proposal is subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.

The two infrastructure wins, if awarded, are expected to significantly strengthen Welspun Enterprises' portfolio in both the transport and urban utility sectors.
