Wipro centre to begin operations in six months
Visakhapatnam: Wipro BPO is set to start operations at its local centre under construction at the TB Hospital junction in six months or so, according to Mr Praveen Kamath, the Senior Vice-President of the company.
Mr Kamath said that the Wipro centre was in advanced stage of construction and it would have 1,200-seater capacity in the first phase.
The centre was being built on seven acres allotted by the State Government at the TB Hospital junction on the highway. Ultimately, the centre would have a capacity of 6,000 and roughly Rs 200 crore would be invested on it.
He said the company’s centres in Kochi and Greater Noida were also getting ready and all the new centres would provide employment opportunities in customer service, technical support and related areas.
The Senior Vice-President said the company had 84,000 employees worldwide, 20,000 of them in BPO, with seven centres in the country and five abroad. The Hyderabad centre was employing over 1,000 people.
Mr Kamath said the company was hiring 15,000 people during the year, of whom more than half were from the southern States.
Now the focus would also be on Vizag and the company was interacting with local educational institutions to get the best talent available.
He said Wipro had not felt the impact of the slowdown in the industry and was doing pretty well.
