Work for Palarivattom flyover to begin by the end of April.

Preparatory works for Palarivattom bypass flyover will begin by April end, while construction of the Vyttila flyover is scheduled from the first week of May.

The four and six-lane structures respectively are expected to be ready by 2015 end at the two congested junctions on NH 47 bypass.

Over a month ago, the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) had awarded the Palarivattom flyover works to RDS Ltd. Though the RBDCK announced that work would begin in March, there was an undue delay in shifting power, telephone and water supply lines from service roads. 'We have written to KSEB, BSNL etc., to shift their utility lines. KSEB is preparing the estimate for the works. On our part, survey is getting over for raising service roads,' the RBDCK sources said. At Vyttila, the PWD has dropped plans to widen the junction alongside flyover works. 'This is expected to bring down the project cost from the expected Rs. 109 crore to around Rs. 90 crore, since the six-lane flyover work does not entail land acquisition,' said P.A. Hashim, nodal officer for flyovers planned along the NH bypass and at Kalamassery.

The tender process for the Vyttila flyover will begin only after the Lok Sabha polls.
