Work on new Nadigar Sangam building to start in April.
A model of Nadigar Sangam’s building, work on which will begin shortly, was unveiled at the 62{+n}{+d}annual general body meeting recently.
The building, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 26 crore, will have a marriage hall, an auditorium with a capacity of 1,000 seats and a preview theatre. Speaking to the media after the meeting, actor Nasser, president of the Sangam said construction would begin after the Nadigar Sangam Star Cricket match, scheduled to take place on April 17.
“The funds we receive from the match will go towards the construction of the new building. We initially had three designs from three different companies and have chosen the best and expect to start full-fledged construction by April-end,” Mr. Nasser said.
Actor Vishal, general secretary of the Sangam said: “Many members have come forward and agreed to take up the expenses of building the auditorium and preview theatre. They have also given land for building an old age home,” he said. Actor Sivakumar and his family including actor Surya will bear the costs of the preview theatre’s construction.
Vice-president Ponvannan said they were working towards giving pension to all Sangam members above the age of 60 and welfare schemes for nearly 100 disabled members and financial help to members who have completed class X and XII for higher education.
