"2,350 Acres Allocated for Pharma and Medical Parks in Uttar Pradesh"

Uttar Pradesh is making substantial strides in its ambition to become a frontrunner in pharmaceutical and medical device production. The state has earmarked an extensive land parcel spanning 2,350 acres to establish mega manufacturing parks catering to the pharma, healthcare, and biotechnology sectors.

These ambitious initiatives are set to materialize in the districts of Lalitpur, Pilibhit, and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set forth a vision to elevate the state's contribution to the pharmaceutical industry from its current 2 percent to an impressive 10-12 percent.

With the introduction of these robust pharma, health care, and biotech hubs, Uttar Pradesh is not solely focused on serving the domestic market but is also eyeing the lucrative global pharmaceutical and medical export sectors. The pharmaceutical industry in India, with a valuation of $42 billion in 2021, is poised to soar to an estimated $130 billion by the year 2030. Presently, pharmaceutical shipments from India are valued at $25 billion. India's pharmaceutical industry ranks among the top three globally in terms of medicine production by volume and commands a substantial 20 percent market share in the global generic medicines sector.

A spokesperson for the state government emphasized, "Various medical and pharma projects in UP will make the state self-reliant in these sectors and boost exports. This will contribute to the state's economy and create jobs for the youth."

The significant developments include a sprawling 2,000-acre pharmaceutical park in Lalitpur, dedicated to the production of bulk drugs, starting materials, and active pharmaceuticals as part of the new UP Pharma Policy 2023.

Additionally, a medical devices park, covering an area of 350 acres, is slated to emerge in Sector 28 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) in Greater Noida. This initiative is poised to position the state as a leading medical hub in South Asia. The park is set to accommodate over 100 manufacturing units specializing in medical equipment and devices. YEIDA is in the process of constructing flatted factories to support medical device firms, a majority of which fall under the purview of small and medium enterprises. Arun Vir Singh, the Chief Executive Officer of YEIDA, has underscored that these companies will produce a diverse range of medical devices, including orthopedic implants, oxygen concentrators, anesthesia needles and kits, anesthesia workstations, spinal implants, X-ray machines, endoscopes, biliary stents, ICU ventilators, ECG machines, chemotherapy devices, radiology equipment, portable mobile labs, electrolyte analyzers, and more. These forward-looking initiatives are pivotal in propelling Uttar Pradesh onto the global stage as a hub for cutting-edge pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing.
