Adani Power gears up Tiroda scheme

Mumbai: Work on the Adani Power Maharashtra promoted 1,980-MW super thermal power project at Tiroda in Gondia District of Maharashtra, geared up with the laying of foundation by the Prime Minister, Mr Manmohan Singh.

The company is part of India's well diversified entity, Adani Group.

The nearly Rs. 80,000-mn power plant will be the first large-scale investment by the Adani Group outside Gujarat.

The plant will have a capacity of 1,980 MW in three phases (660X3) and is likely to set in a record 48 months.

The idea of this power plant was seeded on February 9, 2007, and within one year water and fuel supply and land were in place.

The project will use coal mined from Lohara (West) and Lohara extension coal fields.

The construction activity has begun and the company is expected to generate and deliver power by the end of 2010.

The group is aiming at setting up power generation capacity of close to 10,000 MW in the next five years. Towards this, it is evaluating investments for generating 1,320 MW power in Rajasthan and 2,000 MW at Dahej in Gujarat by 2012.
