Fujifilm is reportedly planning to invest around ₹800 crore in a new greenfield semiconductor-materials manufacturing facility in India, marking another significant investment in the country’s rapidly developing semiconductor ecosystem.
The proposed facility is expected to manufacture specialised materials used in semiconductor production, strengthening the upstream segment of the chip supply chain. Semiconductor fabrication requires a wide range of high-purity chemicals and advanced materials, making domestic availability increasingly important as India attracts investments in chip fabrication, assembly, testing and packaging.
The project would also expand Fujifilm’s presence in India beyond its established businesses and support the company’s growing focus on advanced semiconductor materials.
For India, the proposed investment comes amid efforts to develop a more integrated domestic semiconductor supply chain and reduce dependence on imported materials and components. Local production could provide semiconductor manufacturers with improved access to critical inputs while creating opportunities for technology transfer, skilled employment and supplier development.
The ₹800-crore greenfield project could additionally generate opportunities for industrial construction, cleanroom systems, specialty chemicals, utilities, automation and precision manufacturing equipment.
Once implemented, Fujifilm’s facility would add another important upstream component to India’s semiconductor ambitions, complementing ongoing investments in wafer fabrication, chip design, advanced packaging and electronics manufacturing.
