Adani starts trial runs at Vizag coal terminal.

Adani Vizag Coal Terminal Private Ltd., which developed a coal terminal here, has successfully launched its pre-commissioning trial.

The trial run, which started recently by lightening Indonesian steam coal from M.V. Galveston, would continue till the unloading of 50,000 tonnes in the state-of-the art berth.

'The BOT operator is trying to get its systems stabilised by handling cargo. The arrival of a vessel and launching of cargo handling on a trial basis is a welcome development as a precursor to undertaking commercial operations,' Visakhapatnam Port Chairman M. T. Krishna Babu told The Hindu recently.

Adai Vizag is a subsidiary of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd. and part of Adani Group. The group announced the takeover of Dhamra Port in Odisha sometime ago from L&T.

The Visakhapatnam facility has been developed with a total investment of around Rs.400 crore to handle 27,000 tonnes per hour with harbour mobile cranes of 100 tonne capacity, ultra modern wagon loaders and 2.1-km-long conveyor system.

The berth has a capacity to handle 5 million tonnes per annum. Vedanta Group has already commissioned another green terminal to handle imported coal close to the Adani's berth.
