Amadeus Capital Partners invests in Cambridge Clean Energy.
Amadeus Capital Partners, a technology investor, has made its second investment from its $21-million (Rs. 130 crore) Series A round fund, in Cambridge Clean Energy. Cambridge Clean Energy is a provider of renewable energy management solutions to emerging market (EMSaaSTM) mobile network operators and tower companies.
The company said in a statement that Bhavani Rana has joined the firm as India head to expand the domestic business network and establish Amadeus' presence in India. Rana was until recently Investment Director at Intel, where he spent 14 years leading and managing over $170 million of investments in 30 companies in India, the US, Europe.
Reliable electricity supply is a key requirement for the successful scaling of a mobile operator’s network. Grid connectivity can be unavailable or highly unreliable in emerging markets, particularly in rural areas. Diesel generators are a polluting and expensive alternative, often used by mobile operators and tower companies to provide power in these situations.
CCE's EMSaaSTM systems provide a reliable alternative to diesel generators. CCE’s solution includes batteries, solar photovoltaics, a smart hybrid controller and remote network control.
The need for consistent energy supply is, however, not limited to mobile operators. Consumer and commercial demand for reliable power is growing, and CCE is building a pipeline of projects with banks, ATM operators and fuel station chains.
In the statement, CCE President and CEO, William Bubenicek noted that CCE’s aim is to achieve the lowest cost per kWh price of energy.
'We are well funded and will in the future raise further capital to continue supporting the group’s expansion of the EMSaaSTM model across Africa and India. We plan to build CCE into the industry leader for distributed renewable power in emerging markets,'he added.
