Ambitious plans for IITTM South India campus in Nellore.
A world class campus with all modern facilities is being developed at a cost of Rs. 35 crore for the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) southern centre here at Golagamudi in the vicinity of Nellore town.
The construction activity has picked up momentum in a single block of 10 acres land, which is adjacent to the proposed cricket stadium to be constructed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The IITTM, which is under the Ministry of Tourism, Central Government , offers PGDM course in tourism and cargo which is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Enough facilities are being created at the southern campus here so as to make it the nerve centre for tourism education in the region.
Two buildings are nearing completion for academic and administrative blocks.
A separate hostel is being constructed to accommodate about 300 students. “Fully equipped staff quarters and gymnasia will be provided in due course of time. All round academic activities centring around tourism will be conducted from this campus in the region,” said A. Vinodan, nodal officer, IITTM southern campus, Nellore.
The campus is coming up with nearly 1 lakh sft of built-up area.
Located near the shrine of Bhagwan Venkaiah Swamy at Golagamudi, the IITTM campus is two to three km. from the Chennai-Howrah national highway and nearly seven km. south of Nellore town. The Andhra Pradesh Government made special efforts to identify suitable land for this project with tourism principal secretary visiting the area along with the district Collector for the purpose.
Fifty per cent of the project work has already been completed with most part of the civil works being covered in this.
The AP Tourism and Development Corporation (APTDC) is the implementing agency for the IITTM campus development project. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation Ltd. (APITCO) is the consultant.
