Amit Shah Inaugurates ₹330 Crore Development Projects in Ahmedabad.
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, inaugurated and e-inaugurated various development projects worth ₹330 crore in Ahmedabad, unveiled the idol of Lord Ganesh, and distributed sanads (ownership certificates) to rehabilitated residents of Nava Vanzar village. The event was organised by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
Among the key initiatives, the Western Trunk Main Line Project, aimed at improving drainage in western and south-western Ahmedabad, was inaugurated. The project, involving large RCC pipelines of 1,200 to 1,800 mm diameter at an estimated cost of around ₹400 crore, is expected to benefit nearly 15 lakh residents in areas including Gota, Chandlodia, Science City, South Bopal, Bhadaj, Hebatpur, Thaltej, Bopal-Ghuma, Bodakdev, Vejalpur, Sarkhej, Maktampura, Mahmadpura, Fatehwadi, Shantipura, and Sanathal, by providing a permanent solution to sewage overflow and wastewater issues.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah highlighted the historic significance of the sanad distribution for Nava Vanzar village residents, whose rights to plots have been formally recognised 50 years after the Sabarmati flood tragedy of 1973. “For 173 beneficiaries in a large city, this may seem small, but for them, it is an extremely historic and emotional moment,” he said. He lauded the efforts of local officials and emphasized that decades-old problems are being resolved through sensitive governance.
Shah also noted that rapid urbanisation between 2000 and 2005 had posed major challenges for sewage management, but with schemes like AMRUT Yojana under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, infrastructure development is improving living conditions.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said 2025 has been a year of strong development momentum for Ahmedabad, with a focus on ensuring basic necessities and improving citizens’ quality of life. He highlighted environmental initiatives, including increasing green cover through Miyawaki forests and oxygen parks, and praised urban development projects that enhance civic amenities.
Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibha Jain thanked Amit Shah, the Chief Minister, and officials for their contributions to the city’s holistic development, modern infrastructure, and civic services. The event was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Narhari Amin, local MLAs, Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, Collector Sujeet Kumar, other officials, and a large number of citizens.
