AM/NS India, JSW Steel Partner with International Firms for Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Study in Asia.
Two of India's leading steel producers, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) and JSW Steel, have partnered with an international consortium of energy and steel companies to launch a pre-feasibility study on Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) hubs. This initiative marks a significant step toward decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries like steel manufacturing.
The consortium includes major global players such as Hyundai Steel, BHP, Chevron, and Mitsui. Their collective goal is to evaluate large-scale solutions for capturing, transporting, and storing carbon dioxide (CO2).
Slated for completion by the end of 2026, the study will examine the technical feasibility, costs, timelines, and regulatory frameworks necessary for these hubs. Each partner company, including AM/NS India and JSW Steel, will participate in assessing at least one of the potential hubs. This collaborative effort aims to accelerate the development of sustainable solutions for a more environmentally friendly future in industrial sectors.
