"Anand Vihar RRTS Set to Launch Trial Runs in November, Preparing to Enter the Capital"
The construction of the Anand Vihar RRTS station is nearing completion, with final touches being applied. Currently, a 42-km stretch from Meerut South to Sahibabad is operational. Officials have announced that trial runs for the 6.5-km section from Sahibabad to Anand Vihar will commence in November.
Anand Vihar, a key transit hub serving thousands of commuters daily, will feature an RRTS station designed to seamlessly connect with Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, and various bus networks. The Delhi section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor includes a 9-km elevated viaduct and a 5-km underground section.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) reports that with the viaduct construction now complete, work is moving quickly on track laying, overhead electrification, and signaling. The trial run for the Namo Bharat train on the 6.5-km stretch is expected to start by November. The corridor will feature stations at Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, and Anand Vihar, all nearing completion, while the Jangpura station, which will include a stabling yard, will be developed later.
The Anand Vihar RRTS station will be unique as the only underground RRTS station, positioned one level below ground. This design aims to facilitate easy transfers between different transport modes. The station will include designated pick-up and drop-off points for vehicles, with three bridges over the Ghazipur drain providing access: a 10-meter-wide right bridge for vehicle entry, a 13-meter-wide left bridge for exits, and a 5-meter-wide middle bridge for pedestrian movement.
To improve commuter experience, the station's design includes separate entry and exit routes to avoid congestion and streamline travel. The station will be closely connected to the Metro (Blue and Pink Lines), Swami Vivekananda ISBT, DTC inter-state bus terminal, UPSRTC Kaushambi bus stand, and Anand Vihar railway station. A foot overbridge will link the Metro Complex to Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg, with lifts, stairs, and escalators connecting the RRTS station.
Currently, the Namo Bharat train operates on a 42-km stretch from Sahibabad to Meerut South, covering nine stations. Once the full 82-km corridor is completed by June 2025, passengers will be able to travel between Delhi and Meerut in under an hour.
