Andhra Pradesh Gets ₹3,653 Cr 4-Lane Highway Nod from Cabinet.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday gave its crucial approval for the construction of a 108.134 km, four-lane Badvel-Nellore highway corridor in Andhra Pradesh. The ambitious project carries an estimated cost of ₹3,653.10 crore and will be developed under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model.
This significant corridor is poised to substantially enhance connectivity across three major industrial corridors in the region: the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC), and the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). A pivotal strategic advantage of the new highway will be the improved access it provides to the vital Krishnapatnam Port.
The approved Badvel-Nellore corridor will specifically link the Kopparthy Node on the VCIC, the Orvakal Node on the HBIC, and the Krishnapatnam Node on the CBIC. This interconnectedness is expected to significantly strengthen the industrial infrastructure of Andhra Pradesh.
"This will have a positive impact on the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) of the country," a statement from the CCEA affirmed, highlighting the project's broader economic benefits.
The four-lane Badvel-Nellore corridor will commence at Gopavaram village, situated on the existing National Highway NH-67 in YSR Kadapa district. It will stretch to conclude at the Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (Chennai-Kolkata) in the SPSR Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, thereby creating a vital artery for trade and transportation.
