Japan-based JFE Engineering Corporation has invested ₹43 crore to acquire a 25% stake in a special purpose vehicle promoted by Antony Waste Handling Cell for developing two waste-to-energy projects in Andhra Pradesh.

The investment marks the first Japanese foreign direct investment in India’s waste-to-energy sector, and also represents JFE Engineering Corporation’s formal entry into the country’s waste management market.

As part of the agreement, JFE Engineering will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the two waste-to-energy plants, which are planned to come up in Kadapa and Kurnool.
