AP, Telangana agree to share DPRs of new projects on Krishna.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have agreed to share detailed project reports (DPRs) of proposed and upcoming projects on the Krishna river.
During a meeting held recently by the Krishna River Management Board, representatives of both States agreed that they will share the DPRs and submit them before the Board. This is significant in the backdrop of concerns expressed by the States about the construction of new projects to use the Krishna waters, which could potentially lead to overuse by the States beyond allocation.
The hydropower generated from the power houses at the Srisailam project will be shared equally in 50:50 ratio, both the States agreed and conveyed to the Board.
Godavari diversion
The Krishna Board acknowledged the submission made by Telangana about the Godavari waters being diverted by Andhra Pradesh to Krishna to facilitate water supply to the Rayalaseema region.
The Board made it clear that AP and Telangana have agreed to utilise the Krishna River water in 66:34 per cent ratio.
With regards to the shifting of the River Board office to Vijayawada, as per the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, the State brought to the notice of the Board. The Central Water Resources Ministry will decide, the Board made it clear.
Telangana wanted higher allocation for drinking water as AP has been diverting Godavari water to Krishna from the Pattiseema project and also setting up the Polavaram project.
