"AP to Issue Bids for ₹48,000 Crore New Capital Project in Amaravati, Says CRDA Commissioner Bhaskar"

The Andhra Pradesh Government is set to issue bids worth ₹48,000 crore for the Greenfield Amaravati Capital Project, with the bidding process expected to begin in November and construction slated to start in January, according to Bhaskar Katamneni, Commissioner of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (AP CRDA).

Originally initiated by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government between 2014 and 2019, the ambitious capital project faced a halt under the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, which sought to shift the executive capital to Visakhapatnam. This decision ignored commitments made to farmers who had contributed their land through pooling for the new capital and led to a decline in investments in the state.

“We are restarting all the works again. The original master plan has been retained, and the bids will be based on revised estimates totaling approximately ₹48,000 crore,” Bhaskar stated.

Regarding land acquisition for the capital, Bhaskar noted that most of the land pooling was completed during the TDP government’s term, with only a small portion of 3,500 acres still pending. Of that, 200 acres have already been acquired. He emphasized that farmers are eager to provide the remaining land.

The project is set to be developed on 33,000 acres acquired from farmers in 30 villages in the Mangalagiri-Guntur region. Despite a five-year construction hiatus from 2019 to 2024, existing structures remain intact, with safety certified by expert panels from IITs in Chennai and Hyderabad.

Investor interest in the new capital region is reportedly on the rise, with 130 entities expressing interest in investing in Amaravati. The CRDA is currently reviewing land allocations and urging those investors who have not yet resumed work to do so promptly. Some investors who previously withdrew from proposed investments are now returning.

To enhance economic growth in the capital region, the government is augmenting connectivity, planning improvements in road, rail, air, and port access. Additionally, beautification efforts will include canals to attract global tourists, further supporting the project's development.
