Artson Engineering, a Tata Projects Firm, to Establish Shipbuilding Unit in Kochi.

Artson Engineering Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Projects Ltd, is set to establish a passenger shipbuilding unit in Kochi in partnership with state-run Malabar Cements Ltd.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two companies in Kochi on Saturday. Speaking at the Invest Kerala Global Summit, Shashank Jha, CEO of Artson Engineering, highlighted the profitability of the shipbuilding sector, stating that an investment of ₹1 can yield a return of ₹8.

The new facility will focus on manufacturing medium-sized vessels of 100 tonnes to support the growing inland water transportation sector. The Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Project is expected to drive demand for such vessels, further boosting the venture’s prospects.

According to Chandra Bose J, Managing Director of Malabar Cements Ltd, the unit will be set up on seven acres of land leased by MCL from the Kochi Port. The project is expected to generate direct employment for 300 people, contributing to the region’s economic growth.
