Ashok Leyland Set to Inaugurate EV Manufacturing Facility in Lucknow Within 30–60 Days.
Ashok Leyland is set to inaugurate its electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Lucknow within the next 30–60 days, according to the company’s Managing Director and CEO, Shenu Agarwal.
The new facility will have an initial annual capacity to produce 2,500 buses, with a primary focus on electric buses. However, Agarwal noted that the plant has been designed with flexibility in mind and can manufacture buses powered by diesel or alternate fuels as well. He shared the update while discussing the company’s second-quarter financial results.
Speaking about Switch Mobility, the company’s EV arm, Agarwal announced that Ashok Leyland has decided to shift manufacturing operations for Switch buses from the UK to Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) in the UAE. “We are in the process of investing in the RAK factory to enable production for the European and UK markets,” he said.
Agarwal added that RAK offers strategic advantages, including better access to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets and improved cost efficiency. “We have not exited the UK or European markets. We have simply relocated our supply chain and production base from the UK to RAK,” he clarified.
