Assam Govt Signs ₹22,900 Crore Project MoUs.

The Assam government recently formalized agreements for 20 projects valued at ₹22,900 crore through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony. These projects stem from proposals received during the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit held in February.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, present at the ceremony, highlighted the state's focus on both large-scale infrastructure development and employment-generating sectors requiring lesser investment, such as agriculture and dairy.

Discussing the investment landscape, CM Sarma stated that these signed MoUs represent binding commitments for proposals worth ₹22,900 crore that are now progressing to the execution stage. Key sectors covered by these projects include waste management, the Tata Gateway initiative, solar power production, and ethanol production.

Taking to social media platform ‘X', Sarma elaborated on the process: "At #AdvantageAssam2 we signed MoUs of ₹5 lakh cr. Since then we did extensive due diligence on feasibility. While we continue to scrutinise other proposals, today ₹23,000 cr of investment commitments are moving to an executionary phase which will create approximately 6,000 jobs."

The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit in February had initially aimed to attract investments totaling ₹1.50 lakh crore within its first year. The Chief Minister noted that proposals deemed unserious were filtered out to ensure a higher conversion rate between proposed investments and actual project implementation.

Sarma also pointed to other significant infrastructure projects moving forward since the summit, including the Guwahati ring road and Narengi-Kuruwa bridge over the Brahmaputra (₹7,800 crore), and the Union Cabinet-approved Guwahati-Silchar express highway (₹23,000 crore).

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister announced plans for another MoU signing ceremony in September or October to formalize agreements with additional major investors. He specifically lauded Amul's initiative to establish a milk processing unit in Assam, citing it as an example of high employment generation relative to investment size. "Amul signed an agreement of ₹75 crore, others signed agreements of ₹2,000 crore. But in terms of employment, Amul, with Rs 75 crore, will generate 20,000 jobs. That is the power of dairy, horticulture, veterinary, and agriculture," Sarma emphasized, highlighting the potential of these sectors for job creation.
