AVNL, MIL Boost India’s New Defence PSUs’ Order Book to ₹83,109 Crore.
India’s seven newly corporatised defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs) have collectively amassed an order book of ₹83,109 crore as of April 1, reflecting a strong consolidation of demand across the country’s strategic manufacturing ecosystem. The figures were detailed in a report presented by the Standing Committee on Defence in Parliament.
According to the committee’s Action Taken Report on Demands for Grants (2025-26), Armoured Vehicle Nigam Ltd (AVNL) tops the list with ₹35,553 crore in orders, followed by Munitions India Ltd (MIL) at ₹28,939 crore and Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd (AWEIL) at ₹8,236 crore. On the lower end, Gliders India Ltd (GIL) holds an order book of ₹211 crore, a variation the panel attributes to differences in product lines and operational scale.
The report highlights that since the corporatisation of the former Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) in 2021, the DPSUs have gained enhanced financial and functional autonomy, enabling them to explore new domestic and international markets. The Ministry of Defence told the panel that these companies are broadening their portfolios to address the Indian Army’s evolving requirements, particularly in armoured vehicles, artillery guns, and ammunition.
This milestone underscores the growing role of India’s defence PSUs in strengthening the nation’s strategic manufacturing and self-reliance in defence capabilities.
