Bairabi-Sairang Line Set to Revolutionize Travel and Trade in Mizoram.

The northeastern state of Mizoram is on the cusp of a historic moment as it prepares to be connected to India's national railway network for the first time. The Bairabi-Sairang New Railway Line Project, a 51.38 km route built at a cost of ₹5,021 crore, is set to be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the second week of September.

The new line will connect Sairang, just 15 km from the state capital Aizawl, with Bairabi, located near the Assam border. This will provide a crucial alternative to the road network that has long been the primary mode of travel for residents commuting between Mizoram and its neighboring "seven sister" states. The railway line will link directly to Silchar in Assam, allowing Mizoram residents to travel to other parts of the country.

The Bairabi-Sairang project is a significant infrastructure milestone for Mizoram, second only to the 1998 inauguration of the Aizawl Airport (Lengpui Airport). With this new connection, Mizoram becomes the fourth northeastern state to have its capital linked to the national railway network, marking a transformative step in improving the region's connectivity and economic prospects.
