BEL-Rolta combine wins Rs. 50,000-cr Army project.
The Ministry of Defence has awarded the Army's prestigious Battlefield Management System, estimated at over Rs. 50,000 crore, to a consortium of Bharat Electronics Ltd and Rolta India, BEL announced recently.
Said to be one of the largest defence modernisation plans to be indigenously manufactured for the Forces, BMS counts under the ministry's `make' option of procurement, with the government bearing 80 per cent of its cost.
BEL and Rolta will jointly develop and make subsystems for the overall BMS, its soldier system, integration, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the system.
'BMS is a situational awareness and visualisation system that aims to optimise the operational effectiveness of tactical units,” said the release quoting P.C.Jain, Director (Marketing), BEL, and K.K.Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, Rolta India.
'The prestigious project is meant to deliver command and control capabilities to the fighting echelons, operating at the forward edge of the tactical battle area at the battalion and combat group levels.'
