Bhavani town: land acquisition begins for bypass road project.

The bypass project for Bhavani town is currently in land acquisition stage. According to official sources, about 22.5 hectares of land, mostly agricultural fields, will have to be acquired for the project.

The Highways Department will be acquiring land to a stretch of 8.6 km with 30 metres width from Jeeva Shed near Lakshmi Nagar to Hubli Mill at Thoppur-Mettur road near Ooratchikottai.

The land owners in six villages: Ooratchikottai, Andikulam, Bhavani, Elavamalai, Mettunasavampalayam, and Suriyampalayam, have been notified about the extent of acquisition, official sources said.

The project has been considered a necessity as traffic density in Bhavani town has peaked beyond accommodation capacity. Heavy tonnage vehicle transporting flyash from Mettur Thermal Station to cement industries in Karur have to pass through Bhavani town adding to the traffic congestion. At least 100 such lorries pass through the town every day, sources said.

The bypass road envisaged as a two-lane formation with paved shoulders would provide link to the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway without having to enter into Bhavani town.

Detailed Project Report would have to be readied after which the State Government would make allocation for compensating land owners and meeting the construction costs, it is learnt.
