BHEL to build 2x660 MW thermal power plants in Madhya Pradesh under new contracts..

State-owned engineering giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured two significant thermal power projects in Madhya Pradesh, valued between ₹13,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore, the company announced on Tuesday. The orders were awarded by the M.P. Power Generating Company Ltd. (MPPGCL).

The projects, secured through an open tender process, are for the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) packages of two 660 MW supercritical thermal power plants:

  • Amarkantak Thermal Power Project: Unit No. 6

  • Satpura Thermal Power Project: Unit No. 12

The scope of work for BHEL is comprehensive and includes the supply of equipment, civil works, erection, and commissioning of the plants. The projects are slated for completion within 57 months from the date of the award notification, which was received on Monday.

This major contract win significantly strengthens BHEL's order book, which had already surpassed ₹2 lakh crore in the June quarter. The projects are expected to boost Madhya Pradesh's power generation capacity and reinforce BHEL's leadership in India's heavy electrical engineering sector. Following the announcement, BHEL shares saw a gain on the stock market.
