"Bihar Government Approves Massive Infrastructure Push to Modernize Patna’s Urban Landscape."

The Bihar cabinet has approved a series of high-value urban development and infrastructure projects aimed at transforming key areas of Patna, including Rajbanshi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, and the city’s power and road networks.

At its meeting on Tuesday, the cabinet cleared the appointment of a consultancy firm to prepare a comprehensive mega development plan for Rajbanshi Nagar and Shastri Nagar. An allocation of ₹1.59 crore, including GST, has been sanctioned for the exercise.

Additional Chief Secretary of the cabinet secretariat department Arvind Kumar Chaudhary said the proposed plan would cover both residential and non-residential zones in the two localities, providing a framework for planned growth and improved urban amenities.

In a move to modernise the city’s power infrastructure, the cabinet approved ₹576 crore for underground electricity cabling in nine of the 13 divisions under the Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU). Of this, ₹346 crore will come as central assistance under a national scheme, while ₹230 crore will be funded by the state.

An additional ₹76 crore from the state plan fund was sanctioned to extend underground cabling to the remaining four PESU divisions—Danapur, Khagaul, Guljarbagh and Kankarbagh-2.

The cabinet also approved ₹284 crore for the acquisition of 185 acres of private land across 11 revenue villages for a key section of the Patna Ring Road project. The land will be used to construct a six-lane road over an 8.48-km stretch between Kanhauli and Sherpur, along with a junction connecting the Bihta–Danapur elevated road.

The project, being implemented under the Centre’s Bharatmala programme, is expected to ease traffic congestion by diverting heavy vehicles away from the city and promote development along the corridor.

In another decision, the cabinet transferred seven sand ghats along the Ganga in Patna district and two in Vaishali district from the mines and geology department to the Bihar State Road Development Corporation. Officials said the move would help streamline the supply of construction materials and improve coordination for large infrastructure projects.
