Bikaner solar project hits 629.9 MW capacity after SJVN Green Energy's new addition.
State-owned power company SJVN announced recently that it has commissioned an additional 128.88 MW of solar capacity at its 1,000 MW Bikaner project in Rajasthan. This latest addition brings the project's total cumulative commissioned capacity to 629.90 MW, with the remaining capacity expected to be operational soon.
The commissioning of this latest phase moves the project closer to its full 1,000 MW target. SJVN's wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), achieved commercial operation for this portion of the ₹5,491 crore project on September 30, 2025.
While SJVN had previously aimed to commission the full 1 GW capacity by October 2025, the latest figures show that approximately 370 MW is still pending, representing a minor delay. Despite this, the company has made consistent progress throughout the year, commissioning the project in several phases.
The Bikaner Solar Power Project is a key part of India's push towards its renewable energy goals. Upon full completion, the clean energy generated from this project will provide power to Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. The project is also being developed under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode, which promotes the government's 'Make in India' initiative by strengthening the indigenous solar manufacturing sector.
