Blue Planet Reclaims 96 Acres at Perungudi, India’s Largest Landfill.

Blue Planet Environmental Solutions Pte. Ltd., a leader in sustainable waste management and circular economy solutions, has successfully reclaimed over 96 acres of land at Perungudi, Chennai — India’s largest landfill. By processing over 1.73 million cubic meters of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), the company has transformed the hazardous dumpsite into usable space, paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Prashant Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of Blue Planet, highlighted the milestone, stating that the company has cleared more than 13 million tonnes of waste and reclaimed 650 acres of land across India. “Waste is not inevitable; it is a choice. With modern technology, we can transform waste into opportunity. The success of the Perungudi project reflects our commitment to addressing environmental concerns through cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices,” Singh said.

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) awarded the tender for waste disposal at Perungudi to Zigma Global Environ Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a Blue Planet portfolio company, in February 2021. The Perungudi mining project aimed to reclaim 225 acres of land, addressing over 30.6 lakh cubic meters of accumulated MSW.

Following the success at Perungudi, Blue Planet has secured 50% of the contract for bio-mining at Kodungaiyur dumpyard. Spanning 352 acres and containing approximately 74 lakh cubic meters of waste, the site poses significant environmental and health risks. The project aims to tackle this legacy waste and further reinforce Blue Planet’s commitment to sustainable waste management.

The Perungudi and Kodungaiyur projects underscore the potential of modern technology to address pressing environmental challenges while creating opportunities for land reuse and advancing a circular economy.
