CMFRI Partners with Kerala Government to Develop Marine Projects.
The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has entered into a partnership with the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) to strengthen coastal infrastructure and marine development projects in the state.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by CMFRI Director Grinson George and KSCADC Managing Director PI Sheik Pareeth to facilitate collaboration in various marine sector projects. CMFRI will lend its technical expertise to KSCADC in the planning, design, and execution of initiatives such as marine hatcheries, aquariums, offshore structures, marine parks, sea cages, and artificial reefs.
The partnership aims to improve resource utilization and ensure the sustainability of projects, while also enhancing fisheries infrastructure, conserving marine biodiversity, and restoring marine habitats. CMFRI’s scientific expertise will play a key role in preserving delicate ecosystems and ensuring sustainable growth within the fisheries sector in Kerala.
Additionally, the collaboration seeks to generate sustainable income opportunities for coastal communities through improved aquaculture practices and other marine initiatives.
