Borella Ayurveda hospital gets new OPD unit

Colombo: Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake will open a new OPD Unit at the Borella Ayurveda Hospital on the invitation of Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadde.

The new OPD unit costing Rs. 217 million was built under the first stage of the Borella Ayurveda Hospital Development Project.

The new eight storeyed building replaces the old OPD unit which was dismantled, said a press release. The second stage of the hospital development project will also be launched today.

The second stage will include the construction of a new administrative building, paying wards complex, building of a new water supply and sanitation network and the development of roads and landscaping.

The third stage costing Rs. 227 million will include the building of staff quarters and the development of the laundry and kitchen. The total investment will include Rs. 1204 million.

The release said the Borella Ayurveda Hospital started in 1929 was developed at various times but the facilities provided became insufficient with the development of the Ayurveda Medical Faculty.
