Breakwater Projects to Get Impetus.

Continuing with its efforts to combat sea erosion, the State Government decided to expedite Rs. 48.25 crore projects for construction of breakwater along the coastal belt in Alappuzha.

The decision was taken at a high level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy recently.

Clearance for these projects were given earlier. The CM instructed implementation of the same urgently. A decision was taken to submit breakwater project worth Rs. 86 crore before NABARD. Chennai IIT has been entrusted to carry out studies regarding construction of breakwater in the remaining area. Directives were issued to speed up construction work at Purakkad grama panchayat, Chennaveli and Aayiramthengu. Chandy also instructed to renew the existing projects worth Rs. 5 crore and to resubmit a revised proposal for Rs. 10 crore, by focusing on areas most prone to sea erosion.
