C-DAC to unveil its Ubiquitous Computing Research Centre

Hyderabad: The Centre for Advanced Computing, a Scientific Society of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, is set to establish National Ubiquitous Computing Research Centres in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

A ubiquitous computing environment is where multiple computers seamlessly weave themselves and help in faster processing. These computers integrate themselves by combining processors, sensors, and networking technologies with the help of software interface.

This approach envisages radically different designs and thereby helps disparate computers connect and work as a system. A number of research and academic institutions including Intel, IBM and MIT are working on development of ubiquitous computing technologies.

According to a statement from the Director of C-DAC and the centre Head at Hyderabad, Mr N. Sharat Chandra Babu, the focus of these three centres would be to carry out multi-disciplinary research. While the centre at Chennai would focus on health application and establishment of an ‘Intelligent Room,’ C-DAC Bangalore would focus on hardware for ubiquitous computing. The Hyderabad centre would work on sensor networks, security and other building blocks for the system.
