Rolls-Royce Eyes Major India Expansion, Targets Jet Engine and Naval Propulsion Programs

British aero-engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce has said it is exploring plans to make India its third “home market” outside the UK, as part of a broader strategy to tap opportunities across multiple sectors, including jet engines, naval propulsion, land systems and advanced engineering.

In an interview with PTI, Sashi Mukundan, Executive Vice President of Rolls-Royce India, said the company is considering a major investment in the country. He noted that developing a next-generation aero engine in India is a key priority, particularly to support combat aircraft to be produced under India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.

Rolls-Royce currently regards the United States and Germany, along with the UK, as its home markets due to its significant operational presence and manufacturing facilities in those countries. The company’s move to deepen its engagement in India signals its intent to play a larger role in the country’s defence and advanced engineering ecosystem.
