Cabinet Greenlights ₹60,000 Crore Plan to Modernize ITIs Nationwide.

In a significant move aimed at revolutionizing vocational education and skill development across the nation, the government on Wednesday gave its nod to the National Scheme for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Upgradation and the establishment of five National Centres of Excellence for Skilling. The ambitious project entails a total financial outlay of ₹60,000 crore.

The landmark decision was made during a meeting of the Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to equipping India's youth with industry-relevant skills and enhancing the overall quality of vocational training infrastructure.

According to an official statement released following the cabinet meeting, the comprehensive scheme will prioritize the modernization of 1,000 government ITIs through a "hub and spoke" model. This approach will ensure that the revamped trades and courses offered by these ITIs are closely aligned with the evolving demands of various industries.

Furthermore, the scheme includes provisions for Capacity Augmentation of five National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs). This will involve upgrading their existing infrastructure and, crucially, setting up five specialized National Centres of Excellence for Skilling within these institutes. These centers are envisioned to serve as premier institutions for advanced skill training and development, setting new benchmarks for vocational education in the country. This substantial investment is expected to significantly boost the employability of India's workforce and contribute to the nation's economic growth.
