Cabinet sanctiones Rs 430-mn for building houses

Puducherry: The Union government has sanctioned Rs. 43 crore for construction of houses for fishermen living in the coastal villages of Kalapet, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning V. Narayanasamy said.

Speaking at a function to induct fishermen from Veerampattinam into the Congress party, he said the fund had been sanctioned under the tsunami rehabilitation programme. Work had not started owing to paucity of funds, he said, adding that with Central assistance, the project would be expedited.

Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam said his government would fulfil all promises given to the fishermen. Steps had been taken to provide pension to the deserving fishermen.
