Centre Clears ₹887 Crore Mumbai Marina Development Project
The Centre has approved the development of a “world-class” marina in Mumbai Harbour at an estimated cost of ₹887 crore, according to an official statement.
The project will be executed through a hybrid development model. Under this framework, the Mumbai Port Authority will invest around ₹470 crore to build the core marina infrastructure, while a private operator will develop the onshore facilities with an estimated investment of ₹417 crore. Tenders for the project have already been floated, with bids scheduled to close on December 29, 2025, the statement said.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the project would significantly enhance Mumbai’s waterfront infrastructure. “The project will create world-class infrastructure, open the waterfront for public use, encourage private investment and generate new employment opportunities,” he said.
Planned over nearly 12 hectares of water area, the marina will have the capacity to berth 424 yachts of up to 30 metres in length. The marine infrastructure will include an approach trestle, a piled breakwater, service platforms, pontoons and gangways, all designed to support safe and efficient yacht operations.
Onshore facilities to be developed by the private operator will include a marina terminal building, a Namo Bharat International Sailing School, a maritime tourism development centre, hotel and clubhouse facilities, a skill development centre, and infrastructure for yacht stacking and repairs.
