Centre in deal with 7 thermal firms for 1,900-MW supply.
The Centre has finalised seven thermal power producers to supply 1,900 MW of power to Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Bihar and Haryana on a medium-term basis.
The seven successful companies are RKM Powergen, Jhabua Power, MB Power, SKS Power, Jindal India Thermal Power, IL&FS Energy and JP Nigrie.
A statement from the Ministry of Power said the signing of agreements is ‘a major milestone in the evolution of the medium term market for power.’ The bids for supplying power were called under the Aggregated Power Procurement Scheme on Medium Term basis with PFC Consulting Ltd as nodal agency and PTC India Ltd as the aggregator.
In April this year, the Power Ministry had issued guidelines for a pilot scheme to facilitate aggregation of procurement of power (2,500 MW for three years) from commissioned coal based power plants through competitive bidding. After the bidding process, tariff was discovered at Rs. 4.24 a unit.
