Charging Infrastructure for E-Buses to be Constructed in 6 Months at Gurgaon’s Sector 48 Depot.
In preparation for the addition of electric buses to its fleet, the GMDA is constructing a substation at the proposed bus depot in Sector 48. The project, awarded to an agency, is expected to be operational within six months and is estimated to cost Rs. 2.5 crore.
The new substation will provide essential electrical infrastructure for charging the electric buses. Simultaneously, the construction of the bus depot in Sector 48 is underway. The technical evaluation for this depot has been completed, and two agencies have been selected for the next stage of the tendering process.
A GMDA senior official stated, “We are enhancing the city’s public transportation infrastructure to support the upcoming electric buses. The depot will feature sufficient electric infrastructure for charging bays and bus parking. We have already allocated Rs. 1.53 crore to DHBVN for the electricity connection. Out of six agencies that bid for the bus depot construction, two have advanced to the next round. We aim to finalize the tendering process soon and secure financial approval. Both projects will proceed concurrently.”
The new bus depot, planned for a 7.5-acre site at an estimated cost of Rs. 15.27 crore, will house 100 buses and include repair and maintenance workshops, washing areas, and an office complex.
The central government approved 100 electric buses for the city last year under the PM e-sewa scheme. In March, GMDA also secured approval for an additional 100 e-buses from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs without central assistance. GMDA is also setting up another substation at the Sector 10 bus depot.
