"Chief Minister signals the commencement of work on a modern, integrated home for juveniles in Alipur."
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently announced that the Delhi government will construct a modern integrated complex in Alipur for the reform and rehabilitation of children in conflict with law.
The proposed facility will offer education programmes, sports, yoga, mental counselling, behavioural correction, and skill development to help juveniles reintegrate into normal life. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the complex will have the capacity to accommodate over 700 children, including those awaiting hearings before the Juvenile Justice Board under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, as well as children found guilty of offences.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister and attended by members of the Juvenile Justice Committee and officials from the Department of Women and Child Development.
“Juvenile homes across Delhi are often decades old. The Alipur complex, to be developed on around eight acres, will not be a punitive institution,” the CMO said. “It will provide a safe environment, dignified living, and opportunities for reform, with the focus on rehabilitating children and preparing them for a normal life.”
