Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to complete ongoing National Highway projects in the state involving an investment of ₹1.40 lakh crore, according to an official release recentlyThe Chief Minister also instructed that works on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor, which connects to the greenfield capital city of Amaravati, be completed by 2027.
Emphasising the need to reduce freight transportation costs, Naidu asked officials to prioritise road projects that improve logistics efficiency across the state. He said National Highways should be effectively linked to ports at Mulapeta in Srikakulam district, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam and Krishnapatnam.
Naidu stressed the importance of developing road connectivity from hinterland regions to these ports to facilitate cargo movement from neighbouring states, the release said.
The Chief Minister also sought detailed project reports (DPRs) for the proposed Kharagpur–Amaravati Greenfield Expressway. In addition, he directed officials to plan road connectivity between Nagpur in Maharashtra and Machilipatnam via Vijayawada and other key locations.
Further, Naidu instructed the Roads and Buildings Department to prepare plans for expanding the existing road network across Andhra Pradesh.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that an action plan has been prepared to construct 6,054 km of roads at an estimated cost of ₹2,500 crore. They also said that modern technologies are being adopted in road construction, including experimental roads using Danish fibre, waste plastic bitumen and nano-concrete technology developed by IIT Tirupati, the release added.
