"CMRL invites tenders for Phase 1 track maintenance works."

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has floated a tender for the comprehensive maintenance of ballastless track across Chennai Metro Phase 1 and its Phase 1 Extension.

According to the tender details, issued under Tender ID 2025_CMRL_891275_1 and Tender No CMRL / Track / O_M / 2025, the scope of work covers the comprehensive maintenance of ballastless track infrastructure across elevated, underground, and depot sections of the network. The earnest money deposit (EMD) for the tender has been fixed at ₹23 lakh.

The pre-bid meeting is scheduled to be held on January 20, 2026, while the deadline for bid submission is February 5, 2026.

Chennai Metro Phase 1 consists of a 45-km operational network spanning two major corridors—Washermenpet to Chennai International Airport and Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount. The Phase 1 Extension between Washermenpet and Wimco Nagar, which was commissioned in 2021, significantly improved metro connectivity in the city’s northern and north-eastern regions. These areas are characterised by high population density and limited mass transit options.\

The Phase 1 Extension has since been fully integrated into Chennai Metro’s long-term expansion strategy and is being followed by the larger Phase 2 programme, which aims to further expand network capacity and extend metro services to new parts of the city.
