Coal India Surpasses FY26 Solar Investment Goal with ₹961 Crore Spend.

State-run coal miner Coal India Limited recently said its capital expenditure on solar initiatives reached ₹961 crore by the end of January, exceeding its FY26 capex target of ₹957 crore.

In a filing to stock exchanges, the company said that on a year-on-year basis, capital expenditure on solar projects till January 2026 more than doubled from ₹412 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The company added that the cost of setting up solar capacity has declined significantly. Currently, establishing 1 MW of solar capacity costs about ₹4–4.5 crore, compared with ₹5.5–6 crore earlier, reflecting improved efficiencies and falling equipment prices.
