Cochin Shipyard Gears Up for Major Expansion.

Government-owned Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL), one of India’s leading shipbuilders, is gearing up for a significant expansion, buoyed by new measures announced in the Union Budget for 2025-26.

CSL Chairman and Managing Director Madhu S Nair expressed optimism about the ₹25,000 crore allocation to the Maritime Development Fund (MDF) and the launch of the revamped Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy (SBFAP 2.0), which he believes will play a key role in positioning India among the top five global maritime hubs.

According to Nair, the combination of financial support and technical partnerships with leading international shipbuilders will accelerate CSL’s efforts to construct large merchant vessels and scale up operations.
