Coimbatore Group Seeks Gadkari's Intervention for Swift Western TN Highway Projects.

The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) has formally requested Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to expedite crucial highway improvement projects in the western region of Tamil Nadu.

In a letter addressed to the Minister, Codissia specifically highlighted the urgent need for the implementation of the Coimbatore eastern ring road. "The Coimbatore eastern bypass road, a vital infrastructure project intended to alleviate congestion within Coimbatore city, has been pending with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) since 2018," stated Codissia President M. Karthikeyan in the letter.

The Association emphasized the severe traffic congestion plaguing Coimbatore city, attributing it to the convergence of six national highways within its boundaries. The proposed bypass road, they argued, would significantly reduce this congestion and improve traffic flow.

Additionally, Codissia called for the widening of the Chengapalli-Salem highway into a six-lane expressway. The Association pointed out that the 95-kilometer stretch experiences a high volume of traffic, primarily due to the heavy movement of trucks and buses traveling to Coimbatore and Kerala.

Codissia expressed concern over the perceived slow pace of highway development in western Tamil Nadu, contrasting it with the rapid implementation of similar projects across the rest of the country. They stated that industrialists and residents in the region are struggling to understand the reasons behind this disparity. They urged the Minister's immediate attention to these critical infrastructure projects, emphasizing their importance for the economic growth and development of Western Tamil Nadu.
