Coimbatore TIDEL Park schedules for December commissioning

Chennai: Work on the TIDEL Park in Coimbatore will be completed by December this year, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi announced in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Replying to a question from Kovai Thangam (Congress), he said the park was being developed as a joint venture of the ELCOT, TIDCO, Software Technology Park of India and TIDEL Park on 62 acres in Vilankuruchi village. The Centre had cleared the area for setting up a special economic zone. The required land had been transferred to the ELCOT, on which Wipro had been allotted 10 acres and TCS, five acres. Some other software firms had also been given land for setting up units.

Administrative sanction had been given to the ELCOT for setting up an integrated information technology campus. This would not only provide employment opportunities for software technologists but also improve exports. The government was also taking steps to set up information technology park in Vellore, he said.
