Construction of Four-Lane Road Between Purnea and Khagaria to Begin Soon, Says Minister.

Bihar’s Road Construction Minister, Nitin Nabin, announced in the Legislative Council on Tuesday that work on the long-awaited four-lane highway between Purnea and Khagaria will commence soon.

The 150-km National Highway will be constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and is expected to boost economic development and improve travel efficiency and safety in the region.

Additionally, the minister informed the House about plans for an extra two-lane bridge over the Kosi River. His statement came in response to a query from MLC Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, assuring that the government remains committed to enhancing connectivity in Central Bihar and the Seemanchal region.

In recent years, Bihar, with NHAI’s support, has undertaken several four-lane highway projects, including Patna-Buxar, Arrah-Mohania, Rajauli-Bakhtiyarpur, Mokama-Bakhtiyarpur, and Patna-Gaya-Dobhi. Several others, such as Patna-Bihta and Amas-Darbhanga, are currently under construction.

The government’s broader vision aims to ensure that any remote district in Bihar can reach Patna within four hours through improved road networks.

Government Strengthens Farmer Organizations in Bihar

Separately, during the legislative session, MLC Sarvesh Kumar raised concerns about strengthening farmers' organizations in Bihar. In response, Deputy CM and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha highlighted the state's efforts in supporting Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).

He announced that 696 FPOs have been established, with over 10,000 farmer organizations actively operating in the state. The Agriculture Department is issuing licenses and authorizations to enhance farmers' access to quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, promoting collective farming and better market access.

Currently, 193 FPOs are authorized for seed distribution, 46 for pesticide sales, and 189 for fertilizer distribution, further strengthening Bihar’s agricultural infrastructure.
